A couplet by Saadi of Shiraz on the passing away of life. Translated to English by K. Lessan



Every breath of life passes in a breeze
Looking afar not much is left to seize
To the fifty year old hibernating still:
Perhaps in these five days awaken you will!

هر دم از عمر میرود نفسی
چون نگه میکنم نمانده بسی
ای که پنجاه رفت و در خو ابی
مگر این پنج روزه در یابی
